Bumble Hole Foods is probably the most respected egg processing company in the UK. From our humble beginnings, we now operate from the most modern, state of the art egg processing food factory in the UK, with full BRC grade A, Soil Association and Marks and Spencer A list approval.
Bumble Hole started off as egg producers in 1961 when David Hewston’s late father, William retired from the fire service and together they started a small-holding. The Hewston family’s quality and service ethos – which is still the cornerstone to the business now, projected the growth from that small-holding to a large egg producer supplier many of the regional supermarkets in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
In the 1980’s Bumble Hole’s bakery customers perceived the quality and service to be unrivalled in the industry and as such Bumble Hole developed a line of pasteurised egg products. As the customers grew with Bumble Hole, we saw an opportunity to supply hard boiled eggs and a high quality egg mayonnaise. With the help of a DEFRA grant, we commenced boiled egg and egg mayonnaise production in the mid 1990’s...
Everyone at Bumble Hole Foods is committed to maintaining the high standard of quality for all our products.
Our large number of customers reflects the pride we take in what we produce, from our delicious egg mayonnaise sandwich filler, to liquid egg used in baking. However, our products would be purposeless without a strong supply chain.
Therefore we prioritise and respect our relationships with suppliers, farming producers and a network of packers by providing a consistent and reliable service of the highest quality, all of which combine in our attention towards corporate social and environmental responsibility.
Bumble Hole Foods is at the forefront of creating long term sustainable supply relationships.
We have a very special relationship with our farmers, we understand the pressures and the workload that our producers have because we were egg producers, our business was built on egg production and as a result we can work with our producers far more effectively than just playing the wholesale market to rely on sourcing our raw material.
Working with our customers we can create supply chain cohesion, making the supply relationship robust and reliable. Not only securing volume but enabling us to consider special requirements from customers such as yolk colour or husbandry systems like free range of barn production.
To achieve this we work with a select group of industry experts and farmers, creating an a open book relationship that gives the producers an opportunity to plan a long term production strategy that meets customers needs.
At the heart of this relationship is our Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility program. This is our commitment to deal with our suppliers and customers on an ethical basis and recognises our responsibility as a business to everyone who deals with us.
"Our working relationship with Bumble Hole Foods is a core element of our business strategy. It has enabled our farmers to plan forward and optimise our producer base.
We look forward to building on the success that we have achieved together with new initiatives and ideas of how we can develop our trading partnership, exploring opportunities for our free range egg production."
Tom Elliott, Managing Director, Eggsell.

The vast majority of product is delivered on our own clean fleet of vehicles. All of these are temperature controlled and are remotely GPS tracked. We have a very low staff turnover, so most of our drivers fully understand how to transport egg and egg products and totally understand customer’s needs. We rarely use outside transporters, thus ensuring our priority is you our customer
Our fleet of vehicles also includes a fast-response sprinter van which can get to most parts of the UK within a couple of hours. This is designed for same-day deliveries, for those just-in-case times.
To help reduce food miles, we also try to source egg from farms close to our customer base, thus ensuing transport efficiencies are maximised
The latest instalment of the policy is the successful completion of their "Eggvironmental Plan" or "E Plan" Introduced some years ago when the original idea of the new factory was decided. They set out to address their environmental impact, Andrew explains that it started as a simple fiscal plan, a way for the business to use energy effectively and save money. However it has developed into one of the companies ethical corner stones.
